A Ukrainian woman living and working in Poland said that her employer told staff they should limit speaking Ukrainian among themselves at work and switch to Polish whenever Polish colleagues are nearby, so that everyone present can understand the conversation. According to her account, an instruction to use only Polish was also written in a shared workplace notebook used to pass on information between employees, even though that particular instruction did not apply directly to her own department.
The woman said she has never personally experienced insults or other unequal treatment at this workplace because of her nationality; the issue was limited to being told which language to use in private conversations with fellow Ukrainian coworkers.
