In late August 2026, a young Polish woman was walking along a path through bushes towards a river in Poland to meet friends when she passed three drunk men going the other way. As they passed her, one of them demanded to know whether she was Polish ("Polka?"). She ignored him at first, then answered that she was Polish because she realised that otherwise the men would attack her. She heard the men tell each other to leave her alone.

Walking on, she heard a click, turned round and saw that one of the men had extended a large telescopic baton. The three men carried on through the woods with the baton. She said the men targeted her only because they took her for a Ukrainian, and that she avoided being beaten only because she could answer that she was Polish.
