Six Turkish students and two supervisors, visiting Poland under the EU Erasmus+ exchange program, faced harassment and intimidation from local residents in Góra Kalwaria. The students reported verbal abuse, being filmed in public, followed in shops as if they were stealing, and humiliated on buses. One female student had her headscarf pulled off.

The situation became so unsafe that they were moved to a hotel in Warsaw. The case was reported to the police. Vice Mayor Piotr Chmielewski issued an open letter condemning the hostility and calling on residents to show hospitality and respect:

“I do not want Góra Kalwaria to be seen as an unsafe place. Hostility towards foreigners is growing across Poland, and we cannot remain indifferent.”

Despite the incident, the students will continue their internship in the town, with municipal guards asked to watch over their safety.
