A 22-year-old Belarusian woman was speaking Russian with her friend near the Księcia Janusza metro station when an adult couple approached them. The woman verbally abused them, used offensive language, and told them to 'go back to Ukraine.' She then spat in the Belarusian woman's face. After the victim reacted by kicking the attacker, the woman grabbed her by the hair and the accompanying man struck her several times. The victim recorded part of the assault on video.

Most bystanders initially did not intervene, although some filmed the incident. After someone threatened to call the police, the attackers fled. The victim reported the assault to the police and was diagnosed with a head injury at a hospital. Police opened an investigation into public insult or violation of bodily integrity motivated by the victim's nationality, an offense punishable by up to three years' imprisonment under Polish law. The victim, who had lived in Poland for six years, said she had not previously experienced a similar incident and reported headaches and difficulty sleeping afterward.
