A Belarusian taxi driver named Siarhei was verbally attacked by a passenger in Białystok, in the early hours of April 2nd, 2026. After a calm ride, the passenger turned aggressive upon hearing Sergei's accent when he announced the fare, shouting that people in "this country" should speak clearly. When Sergei asked the man not to tell him how to talk, the passenger escalated further — demanding to know where the driver was from, threatening and insulting him, grabbing him by the clothes, and filming him on his phone. The confrontation only ended when Sergei called the police and the passenger fled upon hearing the automated operator.

Sergei subsequently stopped near a police patrol to report the incident and share the camera footage, though the officers said they were occupied and advised him to call the general police number. On the recommendation of colleagues, he contacted lawyer David Dehnert, who specializes in xenophobia-related cases and agreed to take on the matter after reviewing the recording. The aggressive passenger now faces up to five years in prison.
