●  Physical attack in Rumia

A man in Rumia attacked a passerby after hearing him speak with a foreign accent. According to investigators, the attacker used a sharp object, but the victim managed to shield himself with his bicycle. The bicycle's two tires were punctured, while the victim escaped without physical injuries. Police arrested the suspect the same day.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with committing a crime motivated by national hatred. The offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment. The prosecution has also asked the court to place the suspect in pre-trial detention pending the criminal proceedings.
