●  Insult in Jelenia Góra

After the death of an 11-year-old girl who was attacked with a knife in Jelenia Góra on 15 December 2025, the tragedy was used as a pretext for a disinformation campaign and anti-Ukrainian hatred. On 16 December, the day after the killing, the spokeswoman of the District Prosecutor's Office in Jelenia Góra, prosecutor Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, announced that a 12-year-old pupil of the same school had been detained.

In the following days many posts appeared on social media spreading the false claim that the suspect was Ukrainian, and calling for hatred and violence against Ukrainians. Among them was a post by Jarosław Augustyniak, linked to the pro-Russian party Zmiana of Mateusz Piskorski, who wrote: "A 12-year-old girl cut the throat of an 11-year-old Danusia. The murderer is probably Ukrainian. [...] I will say frankly: I do not want to live among Ukrainians. Let them go back to their wild fields." A video by a user named Marcin Bugaj claimed: "Do you know who that girl was who killed that Polish girl? She was a twelve-year-old Ukrainian." The material was posted on TikTok, where the platform deleted his account, and republished on X. An account called "Motto" published an antisemitic and anti-Ukrainian entry claiming that "a 12-year-old Ukrainian knifed an 11-year-old Polish girl and the media are silent".

Official statements by the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra and by Karolina Gałecka, spokeswoman of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, denied that the suspect was Ukrainian; the police commander in Jelenia Góra, Beata Sosulska-Baran, confirmed that the detained girl is "a citizen of Polish nationality". On 22 December the Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Wrocław announced that actions taken by Lower Silesian officers, supported by police from Kielce and Kraków, had led to the identification of two people who published online content inciting hatred on national grounds. The "NIGDY WIĘCEJ" Association requested Facebook and X to review the posts by Augustyniak and Bugaj as hate speech; Facebook did not reply and X refused to delete the entry.
