A 38-year-old Belarusian volunteer named Siarhiej, who had been helping Ukrainians through the organization Kwitnący Dom, was detained in Warsaw on October 19, 2025, due to an expired residence permit. He had been unable to renew it after his passport was stolen during an earlier street attack. Authorities classified him as a threat to public order because of a prior conviction for drunk driving about a year and a half earlier.

Despite appealing the deportation decision and applying for international protection, Siarhiej was held in a closed detention center and later deported on April 24 without his lawyer being informed. Activists had attempted to secure an interim measure from the European Court of Human Rights to halt the deportation, but before it could be reviewed, he was transferred to the Belarusian side of the border.
