● Physical attack in Warszawa Śródmieście
In the night of 29–30 October 2021, three young Italians from Scandicci (Tuscany), who had come to Warsaw to visit friends on an Erasmus exchange, were beaten outside a club at Plac Małachowskiego in Warsaw's Śródmieście district. The attackers punched and kicked them until they fell to the ground. One victim, 20-year-old Gabriele, was struck on the head, reportedly with a metal knuckle duster, lost consciousness and was kicked while lying down; he suffered a broken leg and a fractured cheekbone, and his rehabilitation took several months. Two others were also hospitalised, one with abdominal bleeding.
Gabriele told TVN24 he believes they were attacked because they were foreigners. Early Polish police reports suggested mistaken identity.
Police published CCTV footage and searched for the attackers. On 1 December 2022 the Warsaw prosecutor's office sent an indictment to the Śródmieście District Court against three citizens of Tajikistan, students at a Warsaw university, for taking part in a beating that exposed the victims to grievous bodily harm.
