●  Physical attack in Piekoszów

On 21 October 2023 in Piekoszów near Kielce, a 36-year-old resident, Szczepan B., brutally beat a 12-year-old boy, a refugee from Ukraine. When the man saw two Ukrainian boys walking nearby, he began shouting aggressively at them. Frightened, the teenagers split up and the attacker chased one of them. As the prosecutor described it, "as he went after him, he shouted and insulted him because he was a Ukrainian", vulgarly ordering him to leave Poland and return to Ukraine. He also insulted the boy's mother.

The twelve-year-old managed to photograph the man with his phone while fleeing, but the attacker caught up with him and blocked his way. According to Beata Zielińska-Janaszek, head of the Kielce-East District Prosecutor's Office, the man "insulted and humiliated the boy, but also beat him, striking him with his fists and kicking him in the head and all over his body, causing the child to lose consciousness and suffer injuries including bloody bruises, abrasions and damage to two teeth".

The attacker, who had more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his blood, was detained by the police. The prosecutor's office sent an indictment to the court charging him with insulting and using physical violence against a minor Ukrainian citizen because of his nationality, acting without reason and in conditions of hooliganism, and additionally with insulting police officers during their intervention. He faces up to five years in prison and had previous convictions.
