●  Discrimination in Sosnowiec

On 23 May 2025, during a family picnic at Primary School No. 3 in Sosnowiec, a staged islamophobic performance was presented to children and parents. A historical re-enactment group showed a "hostage rescue display" in which the kidnapper/terrorist was a man dressed as a Muslim. To the accompaniment of Arabic music, a masked man in a keffiyeh dragged a "hostage" into the middle of the pitch and held an object imitating a weapon to her head. One of the spectators shouted mockingly "Allahu Akbar!". A military vehicle then drove in, smoke grenades were thrown and the woman was "freed" from the terrorist's hands.

The show was filmed and published online; the material was shared on social media, among others by Ireneusz Terlecki, a local activist, who later deleted his post. Ahmed Yousef Elsaftawy, a surgeon of Palestinian origin and head of the plastic and hand surgery ward at the St Hedwig of Silesia Hospital in Trzebnica, wrote: "This is not an innocent game. This is programming fear and building an image of the world in which an Arab equals a terrorist, and a keffiyeh is a threat to which the only answer is a weapon. This is how xenophobia and dehumanisation are born. This is how politicians build capital on divisions, even among children. It is a shame that in schools, which are supposed to teach critical thinking and empathy, primitive media clichés are shown."

The headmistress of Primary School No. 3, Aleksandra Kuś-Grygier, said: "I did not check the content of this show, which may indeed be my mistake, and I apologise for it. It did not cross my mind to stigmatise or offend anyone, that was not our intention." The performance was prepared by a re-enactment group of young people connected with a secondary school in Dąbrowa Górnicza, who describe themselves as "a re-enactment group of contemporary military missions in Afghanistan and Iraq".
