●  Physical attack in Warszawa Śródmieście

On or around 8 September 2026, in the middle of the day, a 20-year-old Ukrainian citizen was crossing the street at the junction of Świętokrzyska and Nowy Świat in central Warsaw (Śródmieście). A 33-year-old Polish man walked up to him on the pedestrian crossing and, without any preceding contact or argument, punched him in the head. The blow knocked the victim unconscious and he fell onto the roadway. Passers-by came to his aid and called the police. The victim, who was in Poland as a tourist, suffered a knocked-out tooth, abrasions to the face and bruising around both eyes. The whole attack was recorded by street surveillance cameras.

Police officers on patrol nearby detained the attacker within minutes. He gave no explanation for the assault during questioning. He was charged with exposing another person to the loss of life or serious bodily harm and with causing bodily injury, the offence classified as of a hooligan character, and a court remanded him in custody for three months. Police established that he had a prior record of violence: in late 2024 he kicked an 86-year-old woman twice in the back at a shopping centre, causing head injuries, and days later threatened another woman with death, for which he served almost a year in prison.
