● Physical attack in Warszawa Śródmieście
On the evening of 21 August 2026, a Ukrainian woman was walking to the Kino Femina cinema in central Warsaw (Śródmieście) while quietly talking on the phone. As she passed a Biedronka shop, an elderly woman standing outside started calling out to her and asked her in Polish: "Jesteś Polką?" ("Are you Polish?"). The woman kept silent and tried to walk past in order to avoid a conflict.
The elderly woman then spat at her back, and the spit landed on her legs. The victim, who has lived in Poland for seven years, said she had done nothing to the woman and had never encountered anything like this before, and that she did not understand how the woman had guessed she was not Polish. After the incident she said she became even more afraid to speak in public.
