On the evening of Saturday, 20 June 2026, a social gathering of Poles and Ukrainians was held in a recreational garden area in Gliwice. A 46-year-old Polish man, a participant of another party nearby, approached the group of foreigners and began behaving aggressively and vulgarly, insulting them on the grounds of their nationality. The other guests, outraged by his behaviour, threw him out of the gathering.

The man soon returned, this time wearing a balaclava and carrying a baseball bat. He again became aggressive and attacked one of the men, striking a 46-year-old Ukrainian citizen with the bat and causing him bodily injuries. The attacker then fled the scene.

Police quickly identified and detained him; he was found to be under the influence of alcohol, and the baseball bat used in the attack was recovered. After sobering up he was charged with causing medium bodily harm and with publicly insulting a person because of their national affiliation. The case is being handled by the Criminal Division of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Gliwice, and at the prosecutor's request the court ordered three months of pre-trial detention. He faces up to five years in prison.
