●  Physical attack in Poznań

On the night of 22–23 August 2026, shortly after 1 a.m., four men attacked a man on Towarowa Street in central Poznań. Video recorded by a resident from a window shows the four assailants punching and kicking the man as he lay on the pavement, swearing at him. The man filming shouted at them to stop, but they ignored him and continued the beating for more than a dozen seconds before the group and the victim dispersed.

According to the witness who filmed the scene and published the footage, the drunken group had rented an apartment on that street for a party and, before the attack, was setting off fireworks, harassing young women from another group and shouting anti-Ukrainian slogans. The witness stated that the man who was later beaten had intervened to defend the women. This account of what preceded the assault comes from that single witness.

Initial reports described the victim as a Ukrainian. Poznań police later stated that the beaten man is a Polish citizen, that he suffered no serious injuries and refused to file a report; police confirmed that anti-Ukrainian slogans were shouted during the incident. Because of the character of the event, officers said the material would be passed to the prosecutor's office for possible proceedings initiated ex officio. The attackers had left before the police patrol arrived and have not been detained.
