● Physical attack in Gdynia
A 40-year-old Ukrainian woman was attacked at about 15:30 on 30 July 2026 while walking home from work on Żelazna Street in Gdynia's Pogórze district. She had stopped to record a four-minute voice message in Ukrainian when an older man approached from behind and struck her twice on the head with a hard object, reportedly a wooden stick. She suffered a head wound requiring stitches and was taken to hospital before being discharged the same day.
The victim said she had seen the suspected attacker in the neighborhood before. Witnesses and media identified her as Ukrainian, and the attack drew attention because it occurred while she was speaking Ukrainian. Police opened an investigation but stated that, based on the evidence available at that stage, they did not consider the assault to be a crime motivated by national prejudice.
