● Insult in Przemyśl
In early September 2026 it became publicly known that a woman employed at the city hall of Przemyśl (Podkarpackie voivodeship), a city on the Ukrainian border, had published a Facebook comment addressed to a Ukrainian woman. The comment read: "Szmato, zamknij wstrętną ukraińską mordę i w……j na Ukrainę" - a vulgar insult calling the addressee a whore, telling her to shut her "disgusting Ukrainian mug" and to get out to Ukraine. It was accompanied by middle-finger, axe and vomit emojis.
The comment was documented by the Centre for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behaviour (OMZRiK). Its representative Rafał Gaweł stated that the phrase "Ukrainian mug" together with the demand to leave for Ukraine targeted the addressee's nationality. The organisation wrote to the mayor of Przemyśl asking whether such conduct meets the standards required of a municipal official and the city hall's code of ethics, and whether any disciplinary measures towards the employee are planned. Ukrainians make up a significant part of the population of Przemyśl and regularly use the city hall's services.
As of the reports on 4 September 2026, the city authorities had not publicly responded and no information on any consequences for the employee had been published.
