Warszawa Bemowo Physical attack 0 ✓ Verified

On 1 June 2022 on Powstańców Śląskich street in Warsaw's Bemowo district, a Polish woman attacked Hanna, a Ukrainian citizen who had lived in Poland for six years, as she was walking to pick up her daughter from a preschool. The attack began after Hanna answered a phone call and spoke Ukrainian. The attacker repeatedly punched her in the head and shouted "you are a Ukrainian prostitute", "f*** off to Ukraine" and "I work and pay taxes, so you get 500+".

The attacker grabbed Hanna's phone and threw it into the grass, scratched her, slapped her and hit her on the head from behind, causing bleeding from her ear. She also tore a gold chain with a cross worth about PLN 2,500 from Hanna's neck. A man who filmed the scene from a balcony came down to help and was also scratched; the attacker fled after hearing that the police had been called.

In August 2022 the Warsaw prosecutor's office charged the suspect, Joanna W., with insulting and assaulting the victim because of her nationality and with brazen theft of the chain. She partially admitted guilt and was placed under police supervision with a restraining order.
