● Discrimination in Lublin
On 17 January 2025 the local press in Lublin described offensive comments that Katarzyna Kasprzycka, a teacher at the 9th Secondary School (IX Liceum Ogólnokształcące), was said to have made to her pupils. One of the parents recounted: "The teacher allowed herself ever harsher comments. [...] Antisemitic, homophobic and racist statements followed. During lessons she was capable of suggesting that the Jews deserved the Holocaust because they crucified Christ, and that the SS men killed because they were atheists. Because if they had believed, such cruel crimes would not have happened. She suggested that boys with long hair are gays. And such boys are in the class."
According to "Gazeta Wyborcza", in connection with the teacher's behaviour parents submitted a complaint to the school's headmaster, Radosław Borzęcki, in mid-February 2024. They described, among other things, the harassment of a female pupil who, because of her first and last name indicating Muslim origin, was not called on by name but by her number in the register. The parents also notified the Regional Education Authority in Lublin, which carried out explanatory proceedings and passed the case to the disciplinary spokesperson for teachers. He requested a reprimand with a warning for, among other things, "directing comments at pupils concerning religious and worldview matters and disturbing their psychological safety". In November 2024 the disciplinary commission for teachers at the Lublin voivode dismissed the charges against Kasprzycka. One of the parents summed up bitterly: "In the end neither the headmaster nor the education authority did anything for our children."
After the articles about Kasprzycka's conduct were published in January 2025, the Lublin-South District Prosecutor's Office decided to carry out verification proceedings. In June 2025 the proceedings were discontinued because of the "absence of features of a prohibited act". The teacher denied the allegations, saying that the reports contained "false information and distortions", and a group of her pupils publicly defended her.
