●  Physical attack in Lublin

On 7 January 2023, at a tram stop on Królewska street in Lublin, two men attacked a Ukrainian woman, her 13-year-old son and her adult, heavily pregnant daughter. The attack began when the men heard the family speaking Ukrainian to each other. They insulted them, shouting "Ukrainian b...s", "F... Ukrainians" and "Get out of Poland".

When the boy tried to call the police, the attackers knocked him to the ground and beat him with their fists on the head. They also shoved the pregnant woman, even though she shouted that she was pregnant. The mother of the family said afterwards: "I was very afraid for her. I was screaming for her to run away. She has bruises, but fortunately nothing happened to the baby. What is sad is that none of the people nearby reacted."

Police were called to the scene and detained two residents of the city: 31-year-old Paweł K. and 26-year-old Albert Sz. According to the spokeswoman of the District Prosecutor's Office in Lublin, Agnieszka Kępka, Paweł K. was charged with publicly insulting Ukrainian citizens because of their nationality and, acting jointly with the second man, with using violence against them for the same reason. Albert Sz. was additionally suspected of having threatened the Ukrainian woman with killing her children. The family had come to Poland in March 2022, fleeing the war.
