On Saturday 22 August 2026, after 8 p.m., in the Cytadela park in Poznan, a drunk man shouted anti-Ukrainian slogans at a woman who was walking there with her child. A passer-by named Robert, who was walking nearby with his wife, said the man was vulgar and aggressive towards her.

When Robert spoke up in defence of the woman and the child, the man threw himself at him and kicked him in the knee. The scuffle took place in front of a pizzeria; other people pulled the attacker away and the police were called. Robert spent half the night in a hospital emergency ward because of the injury.

Police confirmed a report of a scuffle between two men on Saturday after 9 p.m. and opened proceedings. The attacker had nearly two per mille of alcohol in his blood, did not comply with officers' orders and was taken to a sobering-up station. The woman left before the police arrived and did not report the incident, so her Ukrainian nationality was not officially confirmed.
