On the evening of May 7th, a group of around ten Polish youths violently attacked a group of Ukrainian teenagers near the Świętokrzyski Bridge in Warsaw. The attackers, who initially approached on an electric scooter before returning with reinforcements, pepper-sprayed and kicked 16-year-old Artem — who has asthma — including blows to his head. One of his friends was knocked to the ground and nearly pushed off the bridge into the Vistula River, while another suffered a broken nose.

Artem was hospitalized and underwent surgery, leaving him with a fractured skull and severe facial injuries. According to a human rights activist helping the family, the victims believe they would have been beaten to death had police not arrived — alerted by a friend who spotted a passing patrol car. The attackers shouted at the group to "go back to Ukraine," with the assault apparently triggered by the teenagers speaking Ukrainian. Polish police have confirmed the attack and are searching for all those involved, though they have so far stopped short of classifying it as ethnically motivated.
