●  Insult in Szczecin

On the night of 21–22 September 2024, in the Turzyn estate in Szczecin, unknown perpetrators destroyed a mosaic on a wall that promoted good relations between the Polish and Ukrainian communities. The mosaic was made by the "Oswajanie miasta" association and the YOUkraine foundation during community workshops and was unveiled together with residents on 21 September on Ściegiennego street, close to the Maleńka Kraina preschool attended by children with war experience and refugee children.

The artwork carried the inscription "Hello neighbours" in Polish and Ukrainian. Only a few hours after the ceremony someone painted over the words in Ukrainian and added vulgar anti-Ukrainian slogans. Residents of the estate reacted to the xenophobic vandalism and cleaned the mosaic themselves the same day.

The head of the YOUkraine foundation, Irina Lechowicz, said the organisation had received threats connected with placing the installation on the estate: "Our initiative met with a positive response from the neighbours. Hateful and unpleasant comments appeared only when a larger number of residents learned about the idea. From the comments we could see that there are people who want to destroy our work." The organisers announced they would report the incident to the police as hate speech.
